ST. LOUIS - As work begins on the first part of a massive pesticide cleanup of
the Pine River, the federal government is seeking opinions about the rest of
the job. Federal officials are working to eliminate DDT contamination from
nearly 240,000 cubic yards of silt.

SCIO TOWNSHIP - The contentious cleanup between the city, county, state and
Pall-Gelman Sciences Inc. seems ready for another go-round. The Scio Township
company apparently failed to notify government officials that it plans to
begin construction as early as Thursday on a second underground pipeline that
would almost double the amount of contaminated water flowing back to the
plant.
