The Conference Committee that is hammering out the differences
between the Senate and House Appropriations bills for the
Environmental Protection Agency is beginning to meet.

Check out the following list of "conferees." If your Rep or Senator
is on the Conference, please give them a call and urge them to:

[1] Fully fund the Clean Water Budget Initiative. The House of
Representatives provided an additional $145 million (over last year's
budget) to address polluted runoff and protect public health. The
House matched the Administration's request. The Senate provided
an additional $115 million. We would like the conference to accept
the House funding levels for elements of the Clean Water Initiative.

[2] Strike Anti-Environmental Report language that:

a. places a moratorium on use of dredging to clean up PCBs.
This would indefinitely delay the clean up of rivers,
bays, and Great Lakes that have contaminated sediment problems.

b. delays the clean-up of toxic mercury emissions from power plants.
Mercury is a reproductive toxin that can cause birth defects and serious
neurological damage.

c. places a "gag order" on the EPA that prevents the agency from
developing programs to address the threat of global warming and
prevents them educating the public about global warming. (This is
actual bill language - rather than report language - in the House
