Enviro-Mich message from Julie Stoneman <juliemec@voyager.net>

The House Agriculture Committee did not get to Rep. Karen Willard's drain
code bill, HB 6095, today. The Michigan
Association of County Drain Commissioners, the Michigan
Association of Home Builders, and the Michigan Farm Bureau
were on hand to raise concerns and objections but no testimony was taken.
MEC and MUCC were prepared to support HB 6095 as a good vehicle for drain
code reform.

So what happens next? Today is the last session day before the election
recess. Rep. Howard Wetters' drain code bill, HB 4337 (opposed by MEC and
other environmental groups), is not on today's priority list for House
consideration so it's likely the drain code will be held over until the
lame duck session. The fate of Willard's bill is uncertain.

Thanks to all who called their representatives, it was an enormous help to
get us to this point. There will be lots to do between now and November
when lame duck starts so
stay tuned.
