MUSKEGON - A foreign species of ladybug is swarming homes and other buildings
in parts of Michigan, a problem caused by a government experiment run amok.

On the eve of a state vote to approve $675 million for environmental projects,
Whitehall city officials are taking steps to ensure a portion of it is used to
clean up pollution of White Lake and nearby groundwater.

The Muskegon City Commission voted 5-1 Monday to start "eminent domain" legal
proceedings against the owner of a scrap metal and recycling business, in an
effort to seize about 1.6 acres of his property for a downtown development

Some suburban officials are saying they see downtown Saginaw as a rival rather
than an ally.

LINDEN - Residents here like their city's small-town feel with its quaint
downtown shopping area and quiet neighborhoods, and have packed City Council
chambers to oppose proposed developments they don't like.
So it's no wonder three of the four candidates for the council's two open
seats say monitoring growth in the city is a top priority.
