GRAND RAPIDS - A strategy to contain urban sprawl and make "growth pay for
growth" is at the heart of a new water and sewer agreement between Grand
Rapids and suburban municipalities. 

MUSKEGON - The city of Muskegon's plan to regulate development along the
Muskegon Lake shoreline with a "planned unit development overlay zone" has
drawn fire from lakefront property owners and other business interests.

BAY CITY - Waterline extensions are in works for Beaver Township residents.

METAMORA - A six-year zoning battle over five acres on the village's south
side is no closer to being resolved than when it started.

SAGINAW - A farmer who wants to grow more homes on his land in Saginaw
Township got an initial go-ahead Wednesday.
But David A. Bender said conditions the township Planning Commission put on
his subdivision expansion plan are prompting him to consider continuing to
harvest soybeans and wheat on the land.


MUSKEGON - A federal agency has fined two Muskegon companies for allegedly
sending excessive pollutants to the Muskegon County Wastewater Management

SAGINAW - A landfill at Saginaw Metal Casting Operations is one of the worst
spots in the country for toxic metals that build up in the human body, an
environmental group says.


ANN ARBOR - An 1837 New England-style brick house saved from demolition
earlier this year is the University of Michigan's new Urban Environmental
Education Center.

The recent closing of the White Lake landfill has led Sunset Waste Disposal to
consider raising collection rates.
But some municipal customers aren't buying.
