E-M:/ comment period on saginaw bay settlement

Enviro-Mich message from Dave Dempsey <davemec@voyager.net>

The proposed consent judgement lodged by the Department of Justice for the
Saginaw Bay natural resource damages case is now available for public
review and comment. Filed by the federal government against GM, the Cities
of Saginaw and Bay City, and the Michigan Department of Transportation, the
lawsuit when coupled with separate state and tribal actions would result in
more than $25 million in cleanup and restoration efforts. The comment
deadline is December 29, 1998. The proposed judgment can be examined at
the U.S. Attorney's Office in Bay City, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
in East Lansing, and a consent decree library in Washington, D.C. Copies
are also available at a cost of $58 from the library, 1120 G Street, NW,
Washington, D.C. 20005, 202-624-0892. There is no internet version of the
232-page document.
