8th Annual Ohio Lake Erie Conference

The Ohio Lake Erie Commission will host its annual environmental conference
on Wednesday, September 1, 1999 in Huron, Ohio, featuring projects and
programs that preserve, restore, and protect Lake Erie.  The day-long
Conference will be held at The Firelands Campus of Bowling Green State

The main focus of the Conference will be discussions of current cutting-edge
issues affecting Lake Erie and the Great Lakes region.  Presentations will
include status reports on the health of Lake Erie as well as all of the
Great Lakes.  This premiere event is geared toward concerned citizens,
researchers, and Great Lakes representatives, along with regional, state,
federal, and Canadian officials.

The Commission will announce the '99 Lake Erie Protection Fund (LEPF) awards
and present an overview of this grant program, administered by the
Commission.  Several LEPF projects will be featured throughout the
Conference, showcasing the success of the grant program benefiting Lake Erie.

The 8th Annual Ohio Lake Erie Conference is an event presented as a part of
Ohio's public outreach program ~ Coastweeks '99.  Coastweeks is a national
celebration of our nation's waters and shorelines, creating many
educational, environmental, and recreational opportunities for Ohioans.
Coastweeks is coordinated by the Ohio Lake Erie Office for all Ohio citizens
to enjoy August 28 through September 26, 1999.  The goal of this program is
to increase awareness of the value and fragility of the state's greatest
natural resource ~ Lake Erie and its shoreline.

2:30 PM - 4:00 PM	Lake Erie Protection Fund Grant Project Presentations

Quarterly Meeting of the Ohio Lake Erie Commission to take place the
afternoon prior to the Conference - August 31 in the Western Basin -
location to be announced.
