The Government Accounting Office released in December a report
requested by U.S. Rep. John Dingell concerning hazardous waste 
sites which could potentially be Superfund sites, but were still 
awaiting a decision by U.S. EPA on whether to list on the National
Priority List.   The report also lists sites eligible for the superfund 
list whose listing was not approved by a state's governor.

In Michigan, two sites were listed as having the Governor opposed to 
the site listing as of September 1997 (See page 352)

Bay City Middlegrounds Landfill
Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Oscoda

Here are the other sites where existing or potential contamination 
of ground water and/or drinking water supplies could justify
placement on the federal national priority list under the 
Superfund program.   (See page 188-192)

The site are in alphabetical order by city of location.
