MUSKEGON - A huge 66-inch high pressure sewer main ruptured in the area of 
the Muskegon Farmer's Market this morning, shutting down many local 
industries and spilling many thousands of gallons of raw sewage onto the 
ground and into streams.

ANN ARBOR - The state has approved the Pall-Gelman Sciences Inc.'s revised 
groundwater cleanup plan which will nearly triple the amount of polluted 
water collected daily. Critics say it is a bad move because a greater amount 
of 1,4-dioxane will get into the Huron River - Ann Arbor's drinking water 
source - on a daily basis.

GRAND RAPIDS - A pile containing millions of tires in Watson Township will 
shrink by hundreds of thousands this summer after Allegan County officials 
recently agreed to have a company remove them. Many of those tires will be 
converted into fuel for electricity at the Hillman Power Co. in Hillman.

MUSKEGON - Sand mining continues to threaten the Lake Michigan dunes despite 
a 1976 law that was supposed to protect the irreplaceable formations by 
restricting mining, according to a new report. The report by the Lake 
Michigan Federation, a regional environmental group, claims the Michigan 
Department of Environmental Quality has jeopardized vast areas of dunes by 
failing to strictly regulate mining.

FLINT The soon-to-close Buick City Assembly Center could be part of an 
expanded state Renaissance Zone in Flint, giving the automaker or other 
developers significant tax breaks at the site.

GENESSEE COUNTY - The Atlas Towship board Monday agreed to have the Genesee 
County Drain Commission proceed with plans to build an estimated $300,000 
sewer line to 30 to 50 residents in the Atlas Mill Pond area. The sewer line 
is designed to solve problems that began began when the Genesee County Health 
Department found at least four sewage lines leaking into the Atlas Mill Pond. 
The problem has been occurring for at least five years.

SAGINAW - A coalition of developers and environmentalists dedicated to 
maximizing the Saginaw Bay watershed is receiving national attention.

BAY CITY - Four years ago, there was no Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative 
Network. But on Monday, the local environmental group won a national award
