  KALAMAZOO - An anti-nuclear power group has charged that the next 
generation of spent fuel casks to be used at Palisades nuclear power plant 
are being built before they have been certified safe for storage or 
transportation.

 MUSKEGON - Once Muskegon County's broken chief sewer main is fixed and put 
back in service - expected this weekend - the line could conceivably burst 
again at any time. An estimated 7 million to 8 million gallons per day of 
untreated household and commercial sewage have been pouring into Muskegon 
Lake since Tuesday.

GRAND RAPIDS Three state lawmakers said they will draft legislation to 
strengthen Michigan's soil-erosion law after repeated runoffs last year at a 
golf course built along a fragile Lake Michigan bluff in Manistee County.

SAGINAW - In a 10-year effort, students have helped show that bacteria levels 
decreased in the Saginaw River since a network of sewage retention basins

BAY CITY - Bay County and township officials did some trash-talking Thursday, 
but when it came to making a decision, they were all business.  The county's 
Solid Waste Management Update Planning Committee caved into township 
officials' demands to omit language about a government "tipping fee" in a 
countywide solid waste disposal plan.

MUSKEGON - If the West Michigan community can raise $3 million, Grand Valley 
State University is prepared in spring 2000 to begin constructing a new water
