MEC Sponsors Environmental Education Workshop for Elementary Teachers

MEC, with support from the Dart Foundation, will offer an environmental
education workshop for elementary school teachers from August 9 through
13 in Haslett, Michigan.  The workshop will be held at the Murphy
Elementary School.  The workshop combines the Murphy Model for
Environmental Education (M2E2), which was designed to help Michigan
classroom teachers integrate environmental education within their
existing school curriculum, and the Globe Program, which is a worldwide
program coordinating the work of students, teachers, and scientists to
study and understand the global environment. 

Participating teachers will receive a $1,000 stipend, including a $500
stipend upon successful completion of the unit and $500 upon successful
completion of the program.  Schools receive a $1,500 allowance for the
purchase of materials and instruments to implement the environmental
units and Globe program.  Additional stipends are available for teachers
that become Dart scholars, helping other teachers to design and
implement this program.  Teachers interested in participating in the
