E-M:/ recycling tax credits move forward

Enviro-Mich message from Dave Dempsey <davemec@voyager.net>

The House Tax Policy Committee today OK'd two bills (H.B. 4022, 4256) to
stimulate markets for recycled materials in Michigan. The bills would
provide single business tax credits for the purchase and installation of
equipment to process postconsumer wastes into finished products. A
representative of Fort James Company in Kalamazoo testified the bills would
make the difference for a project to take mixed papers directly into the
recycling process without expensive sorting and bundling, to be made into
cereal boxes and other products. MEC and the Michigan Recycling Coalition
support the bills; the Department of Treasury opposes them.
