Preserve the Dunes (PTD) has posted on its website a point by point response
to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality's (DEQ) April 19 press
release which defended the record of the DEQ and mine operators in the
mining of Michigan's sand dunes. The response is based on PTD's efforts over
the past 20 months to cause the DEQ to enforce the sand dune mining act and
cell unit mining and reclamation plans at mine sites in Covert and Hagar

PTD is a grass roots organization formed to protect the dunes of southwest
Michigan. It has over 600 members and supporters, and is an affiliate of
West Michigan Environmental Action Council. More information about its

including its lawsuit against the DEQ and TechniSand, Inc. to prevent the
expansion of a mine into a critical dune area in Hagar Township, Berrien
