Here is a link to a news story that documents the relationship between home
lawn chemical use and occurence of those chemicals in streams and runoff.
Although this study was done out west, there is absolutely no reason to think
that use of lawn chemicals in the Upper Midwest, including Michigan, Wisconsin,
and Minnesota is not resulting in the same offsite contamination of aquatic
ecosystem components. Unfortunately, lawn chemicals used in large portions
of these three states end up in the Great Lakes.
