E-M:/ Conservation Ecology In situ behavioral response of common loons associated wit

Here is a URL for a recent peer reviewed paper in Conservation Ecology, the web-based scientific journal. Its worth a look.
This article reveals behavioral effects in common loons (Gavia immer) from exposure to low levels of mercury (Hg).  This should be of concern for conservationists in Michigan and Wisconsin given the ongoing releases and accumulation of mercury into our environment.  Add to this the impacts of shoreline developments, incidental catch in fishing nets and unnatural populations of predators (raccoon, fox) and you have a potential cumulative effects problem for this very cool symbol of the Northwoods.
