E-M:/ state house OKs dirty air resolution

Enviro-Mich message from Dave Dempsey <davemec@voyager.net>

The State House of Representatives voted 78-30 yesterday for H.R. 92, which
opposes EPA's requirement that Michigan and other states come up with plans
to significantly reduce power plant emissions. The non-binding resolution
contends the EPA plan is unfair to Michigan business, while neglecting to
point out the respiratory health benefits to Michigan residents,
particularly children and the elderly, that would result from reduced
nitrogen oxide emissions blowing into the state from Illinois, Wisconsin
and Indiana.

The House also voted 83-24 to express support for the proposed federal
Nuclear Waste Policy Act, which would allow shipments of nuclear waste to
Yucca Mountain in Nevada.
