E-M:/ Yesterday's Smog Report

Enviro-Mich message from "Alex J. Sagady & Associates" <ajs@sagady.com>

Tuesday's ozone episode was bad throughout West Michigan,
north central Michigan and into Michigan's Thumb

Health standard excusions over 85 ppb recorded at:

Benzonia 94
Scottville 100
Muskegon 108
Evans 93
Grand Rapids 89
Jenison 86
Holland 87
Coloma 96
Cassopolis 100
Kalamazoo 92
Houghton Lake 90
Flint 85
Otisville 96
Harbor Beach 88
Detroit (e 7 mile) 87

Smog at Muskegon was the worse or among the worst
of perhaps one other place in the entire midwest
yesterday, according to www.epa.gov/airnow

The Houghton Lake monitor was supposed to be
a background monitor when it was installed. Instead,
it is showing that transported air pollution (that Russ
Harding is trying hard to ensure continues to come
to Michigan) affects very large portions of rural Michigan.

Areas of Michigan with no coverage for smog
monitors include the upper peninsula, the
Saginaw bay area, Livingston County,
northern Oakland County and the Alpena area. MDEQ
has not replaced a monitor previously sited at
Algonac that frequently showed high concentrations
of smog

Predictions of excessive smog continue today only for
Southeast Michigan
