i would encourage people interested in animal waste to look also at the edf
website on the limitations of the data

essentially the edf data are created by taking the usda data on numbers of
animals and multiplying them by some constants for waste per animal . . .
thus i would say that the data, while true, are not very useful, because
they tell us nothing about whether the animal waste is spread over fields in
an environmentally responsible way, whether the animal waste is composted
and used as fertilizer, or whether the animal waste is allowed to run off
the farm in surface or ground waters
