Energy Efficient Home Seminars - August 7 & 8
Great Lakes Renewable Energy Fair

Great Lakes Renewable Energy Fair is being held on August 6-8 along the
River Trail in Lansing.  The keynote speaker will be Alan Weisman, author of
Gaviotas: A Village to Reinvent the World. He will speak at Dart Auditorium
at Lansing Community College on Friday, August 6 from 5:30-7:30 PM.  There
will be renewable energy and distributed generation displays, seminars on
renewable energy and energy efficiency topics, parade and display of
alternative fuel vehicles, panel discussions, a large children's area, food,
music and much more!  The Fair is free.  For more information and a schedule

Saturday, August 7

9:30 AM 	Energy Efficient First - LeRoy Harvey, Executive Director of Urban
Options, will discuss the variety of energy efficiency opportunities that
exist in new and existing homes and how energy efficiency can complement the
use of a  renewable energy system.

11:00 AM	Sun Power in the UP: Passive Design Strategies - Skip Kindred,
President of Garfield Kindred Associates, will describe the design and
construction of this passive solar home in Hancock.  Highlighted in the
March/April 1999 issue of Solar Age, the house was a 1998 winner of a Five
Star Home Grant from the State of Michigan.

3:00 PM	Natural Building - Deanne Bednar will describe how straw bale was
used to construct a 600 square foot studio in Oakland County.  The studio
has a thatched roof, straw bale walls covered with earthen plaster, log
frame, finished earthen floor and fieldstone foundation wall.

Sunday, August 8

3:00 PM	Five Star Health House Case Study - Carl Terwilliger, President of
Terwilliger Homes, will describe how he built a Five Star/Health House in
Davison.  The house received the Health House designation from the American
Lung Assoc. of Michigan and was a 1997 winner of a Five Star Home Grant from
the State of Michigan.
