E-M:/ City Medical Waste Incinerator

Enviro-Mich message from "Alex J. Sagady & Associates" <ajs@sagady.com>

MDEQ Air Quality Division has posted documens relating
to the permitting and enforcement of the City Medical Waste
Incinerator. See:

One troubling feature of the package is that the mercury
emission limitation for the incinerator is being relaxed.

The current limit allows 3 micrograms/dry standard cubic meter (DSCM)
of mercury emissions.

The proposed limit allows two options....

1. either a 3 microgram/DSCM

2. a limit of up to 550 micrograms/DSCM of mercury as long as
City Medical can demonstrate an 85% control efficiency for mercury
with their air pollution control equipment during a stack test.

Plans would be required for limiting the mercury content of waste received
and fines for past mercury violations.

Allowing City Medical option 2 would thus potentially allow 183 times
the stack gas concentration of mercury.

This one deserves close and intense attention from state and local

Also, does anyone know who presently owns City Medical?? This
firm used to be owned by Tony Souve of City Management Corp., who
is a past top political campaign contributor to both Democrats and
Republicans. I had heard that City Management was purchased by
some other company.....
