Roads Cause Air Pollution and Sprawl, Public Transportion causes pedestrian
friendly neighborhoods. 

MDOT and SEMCOG are expecting that only road warriors and builders will
come to these public meetings to demand expansion of I75. Lets surprise
them and make a presence. Come to these meetings and demand that MDOT
institute it's own 1997 regional commuter rail study (by MDOT and SEMCOG)
to Pontiac rather than expand I75. Commuter rail is much cheaper than extra
lanes even when we don't include the extra air and water pollution. Insist
that MDOT includes its own urban public transit people at these road
meetings. Meeting dates and locations are this week, Wednesday August 18
and Thursday August 19. Times and Locations are:

3:30pm Wednesday Aug 18 at Auburn Hills Council Chambers, 1827 North
Squirrel Road, Auburn Hills

7:00pm Wednesday Aug 18 at Troy Council Chambers, 500 West Big Beaver, Troy

10:30am Thursday Aug 19 at Madison Heights Council Chambers, 300 W. 13 Mile
Road, Madison Height

These locations are hard to find and publicity is very low to help keep us
away. Please come to change the way Southeast Michigan Develops!! If you
can't come, call toll free "877-GO FIX 75". The way to fix I75 is to reduce
demand by spending MDOT money in alternatives to the old-fashion
road-building state of mind. We can't build our way out of sprawl
congestion.
