E-M:/Chlorine Free Paper

Enviro-Mich message from "TIM EDER" <EDER@nwf.org>

The new October/November issue of National Wildlife is the first issue of the magazine printed entirely on paper made without the use of chlorine. (The chlorine used in bleaching most other paper creates toxic chemicals that can cause serious pollution problems). Proposals for new pulp and paper mills that would use chlorine and discharge dioxin into the Great Lakes have been a source of much controversy in Michigan in the past.

This is an important milestone for NWF, and you can read more about it in Mark Van Putten's "NWF View" in the issue http://www.nwf.org/nwf/natlwild/1999/viewon9.html. From now on, all issues of the magazine will be printed on chlorine-free paper.
