ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! ALERT!

Enviro-Mich!

It appears that the House-Senate Conference Committee Report on the Interior
Appropriations bill may come to a vote today in the House. Calls are needed
to urge your Represenative to oppose the report and vote NO. There are at
least TWENTY-FIVE anti-environmental riders attached which would greatly
undermine our nation's environmental laws. Some of them may seem eerily
familiar to you- the Timber Salvage Rider rears its ugly head as the Forest
Health rider, for example.

Representative Bonior has been working very hard to remove all the
anti-environmental riders. Reps. Conyers and Levin signed the letter to the
President urging him to veto any legislation containing anti-environmental
riders.

Many Michigan Representatives opposed the millsite mining rider when the
bill was on the House floor originally. Calls should be made to these
legislators to tell them that the language which they opposed is now
contained within the Report. They should vote NO on the entire Report.
Here is the list: Barcia, Bonior, Conyers, Dingell, Ehlers, Kildee,
Kilpatrick, Levin, Stabenow, Stupak, and Upton.

ACTION: Call your Representative and urge them to oppose the Interior
Appropriations Conference Report and vote NO. 202-224-3121= Capitol
Switchboard.

ACTION: Call President Clinton and urge him to continue to threaten to veto
any legislation that contains anti-environmental riders. The Congressional
leadership is hearing his threats and may be beginning to see that they are
in trouble for the dirty politics they have been trying to play. White
House Chief of Staff John Podesta- 202-456-6798.

ACTION: Pass this action alert to everyone you know and get them to call
their Representative and the President.  We have created a very large voice;
we need to keep it up.

As always, if you want anymore information or a full list of the riders,
please feel free to contact me.
