PESTICIDE practices under REVIEW

The Michigan Department of Agriculture will receive public comments on the
1996 draft Generally Accepted Agricultural and Management Practices for
Pesticide Untilization and Manure Management on Friday. COMMENTS will be
received at 1:30pm in the Ottawa Bldg.,Lansing. the Michigan Right to Farm
act provides guidelines that prohibit farms from being deemed public or
private nuisances. In order to have this protection,farms must conform to
the generally accepted practices set by the Michigan Commission of
Agriculture. The commission reviews the practices annually and revises them
as necessary. For a copy of the proposed revisions to pesticide use and
manure management practices, contact the MDA's Environmental stewardship
division at (517)241-0236. Written comments can be submitted to: MDA,P.O.Box
30017, Lansing 48909, or by e-mail to Dave Charney at charney@state.mi.us by
5pm on FRIDAY.
