E-M:/ LWCF sign-on letter - DO NOT SIGN!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enviro-Mich message from Doug Cornett <drcornet@up.net>

"...AHR will support only legislation that contains no incentive for
additional offshore oil or gas leasing, exploration, or development that
should continue to be governed solely by existing law and procedures, and
does not allow funds to be used for environmentally damaging activities."

Friends:

Below is a list of organizations found on the Americans for our Heritage
and Recreation (AHR)†web site. Currently, AHR is supporting the
DISASTEROUS LWCF/CARA compromise bill. The bill, as it stands now, will
allow offshore oil-drilling in coastal US waters to increase, including
unspoiled wild areas of Alaska.

To our disbelief, AHR has circulated sign-on letters SUPPORTING
LWCF/CARA!!! Despite claims made that they won't support "environmentally
damaging activities!" (See above statement)

By endorsing the AHR sign-ons and being a supporter or participant in AHR,
your organization supports the LWCF/CARA compromise bill, which HURTS
activists that have struggled for decades against environmentally damaging
off-shore drilling!

If you've already signed-on to the AHR letters, please consider removing
your endorsement of the present LWCF/CARA compromise bill. AHR has
extended the deadline for it's Clinton sign-on letter to January 5, 2000.
You still have time to remove your organization's name!

If you are a member of any of the organizations listed below, contact them
and express your concerns.

If your organization has withdrawn from the sign-on letters, or as a
supporting organization of AHR, please contact me by E-mail.

For the Wild,

Doug Cornett

NOTE: This post is Michigan-specific because Michigan would receive at
least $13 million annually for conservation projects from the legislation.
