Who'll Win the Race to Build the Car of the Future?
Jim Motavalli, Editor of E Magazine, to speak at
Michigan State University on Monday, Jan. 24, 2000
Environmental editor Jim Motavalli will give a lecture at Michigan
State University on Monday, Jan. 24 about the future generation of cleaner
cars and the driving forces behind their creation. He will speak at 3 p.m.
in room 145 of the Communication Arts Building on the MSU campus in East
Lansing, Mich. His lecture is co-sponsored by the Knight Center for
Environmental Journalism at MSU. The event is free and open to the public.
Refreshments will be provided.
Motavalli is the editor of "E Magazine" and the
author of the forthcoming book, "Forward Drive: The Race to Build
the Car of the Future." Motavalli also writes a syndicated
weekly auto review and a periodic column for The New York
Times' "Cars" section. While environmentalists charge that
the automobile may be the single most environmentally damaging
invention in human history, automakers can now build driver-friendly,
high-mileage, low-emission cars and trucks using cleaner manufacturing
processes. Motavalli will speak about the race between U.S. and
foreign automakers to build cleaner cars for a mass market.
Motavalli will also be speaking on Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Ecology
Center, 911 N. University St., Ann Arbor; at the University of Michigan's
Dana Building in Ann Arbor the evening of Jan. 24; and on Jan. 25 at the
Applied Technology Center at Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids.
All events are also co-sponsored by the Ecology Center. The Dana
Building event is co-sponsored by U-M's Corporate Environmental Management
Program. The Grand Rapids event is co-sponsored by the West Michigan
Environmental Action Council and the Center for Environmental Studies.
For more information about the event in East Lansing, contact Prof.
Jim Detjen at 517-353-9479 or Barb Miller at 517-432-1415.
For information about the events in Ann Arbor or Grand Rapids,
