FW: E-M:/ Congress Attacks Local Zoning

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enviro-Mich message from "Tom & Anne Woiwode" <woiwode@voyager.net>
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to Patty Cantrell for posting this alert -- FYI, Congressman James
Barcia, Democrat of Bay City, is a COSPONSOR of this bill, HR 2372 - sounds
like he is taking a page out of the Michigan Republican Party in trying to
make it much more difficult for local governments to defend their reasonable
regulation of development within their borders. It might be a good idea for
Enviro-Mich subscribers concerned about this measure to also let Mr. Barcia
know of your concerns -- he can always DROP his cosponsorship and that would
seem to be a good idea! Mr. Barcia's office number in DC is 202-225-8171.

National Association of Towns Townships (NATaT's)
Legislative Alert!

GRASSROOTS ACTION NEEDED!

The House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution approved H.R. 2372,
legislation that would threaten the historic rights of local governments to
control local land use and zoning decisions. This bill would allow
corporations and developers to burden localities with costly federal
litigation if local governments do not approve the company's or developer's
plan for the use of a parcel of land. The bill is expected to move quickly
through the full House Judiciary Committee, so it is important to act now!

Contact your federal House representative today and urge them not to
co-sponsor this threatening legislation. To find out who your federal
representative is and how to contact them go to: http//:www.house.gov and
scroll down to the bottom left side of the page.
