E-M:/ Urgent: Call Senator Levin to protect Roadless Areas

Please Forward
Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) is circulating a Senate sign on letter to the
President in support of protecting all National Forest roadless areas
1,000 acres and larger from roadbuilding, logging, mining and other
destructive activities.  The President has recently announced that he would protect roadless areas, but he failed to define "protect." We must act to ensure it is a true and strong protection. If it includes areas smaller than 5,000 acres, it will have a significant effect in Michigan, offering protection to many areas that are currently under threat of the chainsaws and ORV's and Snowmobiles.

This is a very important letter to solidify support in the Senate for
the roadless area policy which Senators Slade Gorton (R-WA) and Larry
Craig (R-ID) have vowed to stop.  So far thirteen Senators have signed
on to Boxer's letter, but more are needed to counter a letter signed by
33 Senators calling for an extensive delay in the roadless EIS process
that could undermine the policy.  The Boxer letter will be sent to the
President later this week.
Please call Senator Levin at 202-224-6221 and urge him to sign on. He has said he needs to hear from his constituents before he signs on. Please call and urge him to sign on at 202-224-6221.
