E-M:/ ACTION NEEDED- Alaska vote soon!
Enviro-Mich message from "Liz Godfrey" <firstname.lastname@example.org>
Many of you are familiar with the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the
ongoing debate about drilling on its coastal plain. Well, a very symbolic
vote will happen as early as tomorrow. It is critical that you contact both
Senator Levin and Senator Abraham and urge them to support the Roth
amendment to strike language from the Budget Resolution about drilling in
this precious public land (more information attached.) Thank you.

CALLING ALL ALASKA CHAMPIONS-
THE REFUGE NEEDS HELP IN THE SENATE!!
ALASKA DELEGATION PUSHES DRILLING IN THE ARCTIC REFUGE -
ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO PLUNDER OUR PUBLIC LANDS FOR PRIVATE PROFIT
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is once again under attack!
Greedy politicians led by the Alaska delegation are using high gas
prices as an excuse to press for opening the Refuge's 1.5 million-acre
coastal plain to oil exploitation. Please call your Senators today and
urge them to defend the Refuge from any attempts to open this pristine
wilderness to development. The Refuge's coastal plain is often
called "America's Serengeti" because of its abundant caribou, polar
bear, grizzly, wolf and other wildlife populations, and represents the
last five-percent of Alaska's Arctic Northslope not already open to
development. The most imminent threat comes from language already
inserted into the 2001 Budget Resolution that assumes revenues from
drilling in the Arctic Refuge.
The full Senate is expected to debate the budget resolution tomorrow
and could vote on it in the next couple of days. This vote is a real test of
where the Senate stands on protecting the Refuge. A vote to protect the
Refuge from drilling could go a long way to nip this latest attack in the
bud and send a strong message to the oil industry and their shills in
Congress that the Refuge is too important to sacrifice for a few barrels
of oil. Please make your call today!

WHAT TO DO:
1) Call your Senators today (Capitol Switchboard: 202/224-3121) and let
them know you oppose plundering the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for
a questionable, short-term supply of oil. Please ask them to support
the Roth Amendment to the 2001 Budget Resolution to strike Arctic
Refuge drilling revenues from the federal budget.
2) Urge them to also cosponsor legislation introduced by Senator
William Roth (S.867) that will forever safeguard the Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge and the wildlife that depend on it.
A number of Senators could go either way and their votes are especially
important. It is crucial to get as many calls into these Senators as
