Earth Day is fast approaching, and so is the Lansing area's largest Earth Day celebration, Healthy People, Healthy Planet.  The free environmental festival will take place on Saturday, April 15, 2000 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Meridian Mall.  Healthy People Healthy Planet is a unique event which makes learning about the Earth and its inhabitants both fun and educational.

This years event will feature presentations by the Organization for Bat Conservation, Michigan United Conservation Clubs' Birds of Prey and Potter Park Zoo, all featuring live animals!

In addition to the live animal presentations, the event will also feature informational exhibits, hands-on activity stations where participants can make treasures from recycled trash and raffle prizes throughout the day.  "The make and take craft stations are among the most popular activities at the event," said Dave Smith, the event's coordinator.  "People really like to create items using their own two hands."

Healthy People Healthy Planet is sponsored by the City of Lansing's Waste Reduction Services and the 2000 Healthy People Healthy Planet Planning Committee.  For more information, contact Dave Smith at 517/337-9459.

There will also be a Red Cross Food Drive at the event.  Please bring nonperishable food items to donate!
