Subject: Dominion

re: Found in Genesis 1:28

"God Blessed them saying to them: Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and
subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and
all the living things that move on the earth."

This passage has been misinterpretated (because of translation of language
from the original Hebrew) as giving man transcendence over nature. The
Hebrew word for "subdue" is KABASH which means to bring into bondage. The
Hebrew word for "dominion" is RADAH which means to rule. This language gives
man--who is created in the image of God--a uniquness in creation and is a
precurser to a passage in the next chapter of Genesis:

"Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to
cultivate and Keep it." (Genesis 2:15)

In Hebrew, Cultivate = ABAD and Keep = SHAMAR. In Hebrew both ABAD & SHAMAR
refer to perpetual stewardship--not exploitation.
