Those interested in the Fee Demo issue on the National Forests in Michigan
should plan to attend the Friends of the Forest meeting being held on
Friday, April 28, 9a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bill Oliver's Best Western in
Cadillac. The Fee Demo issue is on the agenda, and the agenda packet
includes a report from the Huron Manistee on the Fee Demo in this National
Forests in 1999.

The Friends meeting is open to all comers. If you would like complete
agenda information contact Tracy Tophoven at the Huron Manistee (231)
775-5023 x 8726 for the information. The agenda includes an open forum for
raising issues (I would anticipate both old growth and roadless areas
meetings will come up), reports about a Tribal Memo of Understanding (info
available on the web at www.fs.fed.us/r9/cnnf/mou/mou.htm ), reports on the
Bull Gap ORV Area Management, an access site on the Pere Marquette River at
Lower Branch Bridge.
The Friends meetings are designed to provide a forum for concerns and kudos
on management of the Huron Manistee, and they provide a place to have your
concerns raised, discussed and, in many cases, to get information from the
agency. They are not decision making forums, but because a diverse cross
section of forest users attend they are very effective forums for getting
your issues across.
