 Following my previous post, an Enviro-Mich person sent a note pointing out 
 that it is not just forest fires that are a concern, particularly in the 
 exceedingly dry conditions in the state this year.  Wetlands fires, to 
 clear brush, etc., could potentially cause PEAT in the wetland to catch 
 fire.  Where this kind of fire has started, it can literally take years to 
 put it out because the fire is in the ground, in addition to wreaking 
 havoc on that system.   
 
 The simple message is that following the law on getting permits to burn is 
 the only thing to do.
