State Ag Department urges public comment on proposed federal organic standards

Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) Director Dan Wyant today announced
that the department's Michigan Organic Advisory Committee is seeking public
input on the US Department of Agriculture's (USDA) recently proposed
National Organic Program and Organic Standards. After receiving public
input, the Committee will then make official comments to the USDA on behalf
of  Michigan's organic industry.

Written comments should be directed to the Michigan Organic Advisory
Committee at MDA, 
PO Box 30017, Lansing, MI  48909 or via e-mail at organic@state.mi.us.
Comments must be received on or before Friday, May 26, 2000. All comments
received by the deadline will be considered by the Committee.

agricultural economic interests of the people of the State of Michigan. MDA
programs serve all sectors of agriculture, which is Michigan's
