ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES IN JAPAN (ESJ), a new program offered by the Japan
Center for Michigan Universities (on the shore of Lake Biwa in Shiga
Prefecture, Japan) is now accepting applications. It will begin in January
2001. Designed for students in the environmental and natural sciences, it
features guest lectures by leading Japanese and American researchers, field
trips, internships, and intensive Japanese language study. No prior
Japanese language ability is necessary to participate. Partial
scholarships available to qualified applicants.
