E-M:/ Oil and Gas Drilling Ban - Update

Enviro-Mich message from James Clift <jamesmec@voyager.net>

The Michigan Senate yesterday tried to avoid the issue of the Great
Lakes directional drilling ban by offering a substitute that removed the
section of the law that referenced drilling under the lake. When Sen.
peters offered his amendment to the new substitute bill, his amendment
was challenged as non-germane. Sen. Hoffman was the presiding officer
at the time and ruled the suggested amendment germane.

The amendment failed on a 18-19 vote. The vote and amendment language
can be found in the Senate Journal #57, page 1474 (6/20/00) The
