Re: Public Program on Dredging and Water Quality

The Holland Area League of Women Voters will present a free public program
on dredging issues in Lake Macatawa and Kalamazoo Lake. The meeting will be
held on Wednesday, July 12 at 7 PM at Herrick Library, 300 River Ave. in
Holland, Michigan.

Speakers from the Environmental Protection Association, Michigan Department
of Environmental Quality, Army Corps of Engineers and Michigan Department of
Health will present information on dredging issues.

Topics include dredging permits and regulations, testing, disposal and
clean-up of contaminated sediments, and the health effects of toxic
sediments such as PCBs in the Saugatuck area and arsenic found in Lake
Macatawa. The EPA will also give details on its Lake Michigan Management
Plan and clean-up of contaminated sediments.

The League encourages anyone interested - boat owners, businesses,
homeowners, and the general public - to attend and learn about this
important issue of water quality.
