Dear Charles,
I agree these issue should or can unite, but the amount of growth is
daunting and one development "problem" seems to come on the heels of
another. As one township contemplates doing away with "ag" zoning because
there is a belief there are not enough farmers to warrant the land staying
zoned for agriculture, another township discusses a new "stripe-mall"
development, while a 3rd is faced with a request to re-zone agricultural
land for a huge housing development. Those of us still trying to farm feel
helpless to constantly defend our need for less traveled roads, and land
available to farm. And if local issue don't keep us on the edge of our
seats, we can look to our state government to promote new road building
projects that undoubtedly aim at cutting through fertile farm land. It
makes a person want to find an undeveloped piece of ground to stick their
head in and escape.
