E-M:/ 2002 CMI Surface H20 Clean Up
This arrived from
the DEQ today . . . (paraphrased) . . .
The DEQ is
initiating preparations for additional funding recommendations for FY 2002 for
the surface water contaminated sediment element of the Clean Michigan
Initiative. The focus of this element is on the remediation of
contaminated sediment sites that are not covered by an ongoing program.
The environmental conditions typically associated with these sites are localized
sediment contamination by chemical pollutants, and usually fish with leelvated
levels of bioaccumulatiev chemicals. Maintenance dredgeing for watercraft
because of low water conditions does not qualify. DEQ has already
identified ten sites for funding under this element: Black River (Bangor),
Clinton River, Deer Lake (Marquette Cnty), Detroit RIver, Muskegon Lake, Pine
RIver (St. Louis), Raisin RIver, Rouge River (Detroit), White Lake (Muskegon
Cnty), and Wolf Creek (Edmore).
If you know of other
sites you would like to recommend, contact
