Help protect an important wetland.

Volunteer Stewards are needed to help with the restoration activities at
The Nature Conservancy's Ives Road Fen Preserve.

The Nature Conservancy is seeking individuals or small groups who are
willing and able to commit three to four hours at Ives Road Fen
Preserve. This includes an interpretive walk, lead by our stewardship
staff or a volunteer leader, where volunteers typically see rare and
beautiful plants and animals such as Blanchard's cricket frog,
blue-winged warbler, rose-breasted grosbeak, showy coneflower, and
prairie-indian plantain. Depending on the weather, we will have the
volunteers remove invasive plants, collect native seeds, or work on
other restoration projects. The work is both
exciting and rewarding, giving the volunteer a strong connection with
the protection of Michigan's unique wildlife.

Volunteer Stewards will work closely with individual Conservancy staff
on projects that both fit the interests of the volunteer and help meet
the preserve stewardship goals. Ives Road Fen Preserve, priority site of
national significance due to its high biological diversity and ecosystem
rarity, is located near Tecumseh, Michigan.

What are some potential benefits to the volunteer steward?
Gaining experience with and understanding of ecological restoration
activities; learning more about southern Michigan's native ecosystems,
flora, and fauna; being part of the community of people (locally,
regionally, nationally, and globally) that are taking on the work of
ecological restoration; and working to safeguard biological diversity
and ecological integrity of natural areas.

The Nature Conservancy is a private, non-profit, international
conservation organization. Its mission is to preserve plants, animals,
and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by
protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.

Contact Matt Flechter at (734) 260-1416 or mflechter@tnc.org for more
information or to schedule a day at Ives Road Fen Preserve.
