POSITION AVAILABLE

United Cerebral Palsy Association of Michigan is seeking a full-time
Transportation Project Coordinator to be based in Lansing to coordinate
its statewide transportation advocacy project.  UCP Michigan is a
non-profit advocacy organization that provides policy advocacy on
disability issues; public education about disabilities and disability
services and laws, and information and referral to people with
disabilities and their families. The Coordinator will work closely with
the Executive Director, the Michigan Land Use Institute, The Arc
Michigan and local disability transportation groups/initiatives to
promote support for changes in Michigan transportation policies leading
to increased funding for and improvements in transportation for people
with disabilities.

Requirements:
o Experience with grass roots organizing, and proven ability to mobilize
constituencies.
o Ability to communicate effectively with policy makers and with
citizens.
o Excellent writing skills.
o Strong public speaking skills.
o Excellent computer skills.
o Ability to analyze state and federal transportation policies
required.  Familiarity with public transportation issues preferred.
o Self-starter able to handle multiple projects at once.
o Willingness and ability to travel throughout the state.

Tasks
o Start-up and develop Project in accordance with funder project
outlines.
o Work with and support the efforts of grass roots disability
transportation advocates and non-disability transit activist partners
throughout Michigan
o Develop and implement plan to impact state transportation policy to
improve transportation for people with disabilities in both rural and
urban areas.
o Develop and implement public awareness campaign on disability
transportation issues.
o Review and analyze state and federal transportation policies.
o Prepare and deliver testimony before state and federal officials.
o Write fact sheets, special reports, and press releases.
o Develop and implement plan to include people with disabilities in all
aspects of the project and to improve transit services to unserved and
underserved populations.
o Establish working relationships with agencies/boards involved with
transportation initiatives.
o Organize and participate in regular meetings/conferences of local and
statewide disability transportation advocates and non-disability transit
activist partners.
o Prepare curriculum for and present workshops on disability
transportation policy and initiatives.

Availability: Immediate.   Salary:  $37,000-40,500, plus benefits, based
on experience
