BILL MCKIBBEN TO SPEAK IN GRAND RAPIDS

Earth's Voices, a new environmental speaker's series in Grand Rapids, kicks
off on Friday, October 20 with noted author, Bill McKibben.  Hosted by the
Land Conservancy of West Michigan and the Public Museum of Grand Rapids,
McKibben's talk is free and open to the public.  An author reception and
book signing begins at 6:30 pm and McKibben speaks at 7:30 pm.

McKibben is author of THE END OF NATURE and a wide array of other books and
articles about environment, culture, religion, economics and media.
THE END OF NATURE, published in 1989, was the first book for a general
audience about global warming, a groundbreaking account that was translated
into 20 languages on five continents and republished in a new tenth
anniversary edition last year.  His other books include THE AGE OF MISSING
INFORMATION and HOPE,HUMAN AND WILD.  A former staff writer for the New
Yorker, McKibben's work has appeared in most national newspapers and
magazines, including the New York Times, the New York Review of Books, the
Atlantic, Harper's, Christian Century, Outside, Sierra, Rolling Stone,
Modern Maturity, Christianity Today, Forbes, Good Housekeeping and Natural
History.

The event is made possible by the Korth Family Foundation. Event partners
include the Dwight Lydell Chapter, Isaak Walton League; West Michigan Group,
Sierra Club; Grand Rapids Audubon; West Michigan Environmental Action
Council; Muskegon Chapter, Lake Michigan Federation; Center for
Environmental Studies; Biology Department, Grand Valley State University;
and Howard Christianson Nature Center.
