E-M:/ Call in show on trash

Enviro-Mich message from Mary Beth Doyle <marybeth@ecocenter.org>

Lana Pollack, Director of the Michigan Environmental Council, will be on
WEMU tomorrow morning from 7:40 to 8 am. It is a call in show, so if you
have an opinion on Toronto sending their trash to Michigan (and who
doesn't!) please call in and be heard. Turn your FM dial to 89.1, then call
in at 734-487-8936.

For those of you haven't heard, Toronto is in the process of finalizing a
plan that would send 1.5 million tons of trash to Michigan each year to
landfills in Washtenaw and Wayne counties. Toronto press has been
portraying Michigan as a 'willing host' to this trash. Perhaps that
shouldn't be any surprise, given that under Engler and Harding, we've seen
Michigan's landfill capacity expand dramatically, resulting in lower fees
and making Michigan a magnet for out-of-state waste.

So, call in tomorrow morning and express yourself! Then go to the Ecology
Center's website at http://www.ecocenter.org and sign on the on-line
petition demanding real action, not just rhetoric, from the Engler
