The US Attorneys for the Western District (Michael Dettmer) and the Eastern 
District (Saul Green), along with Michigan Attorney General Jennifer 
Granholm, are hosting an Environmental Issues Seminar on Wednesday, 
December 13th, in Lansing.  The goals of the seminar are:

1) To explain to an audience of law enforcement and community-based 
organization leaders what their respective federal and state 
responsibilities are, both civil and criminal, and

2) To heighten citizen and law enforcement awareness of the Environmental 
Task Force that is currently organized in the Eastern District of Michigan 
and the Environmental Crimes Coordinating Committee that is being organized 
in the Western District of Michigan.

The agenda includes presentations by officials from EPA, Customs, the Coast 
Guard, the FBI, the Army Corps, the US Atty's offices, MI Atty General, and 
DEQ.  The notice indicates that "we anticipate that presenters from each 
agency will explain their criminal jurisdiction as it pertains to 
environmental issues.  Additionally, we expect that each presenter will 
explain how and when their agency will become involved in an 

This seminar looks like a good opportunity for environmental activists to 
find out who, when and how they can seek to involve legal authorities in 
rectifying violations of environmental laws. 

There is a $10 charge, with lunch on your own.  They ask that the 
registration form and the $10 check made out to "L.E.C.C." be sent no later
