New Land Use Grants Available
The People and Land initiative (PAL) is a new funding source for nonprofit organizations and educational institutions working in land-use education, community engagement, participation, and decision-making in Michigan. During the 2001 funding cycle, five $25,000 grants for short-term (eight months) projects will be awarded to statewide and local Michigan organizations that are seeking answers to complex land-use questions, with special focus on rural communities facing expanding suburban sprawl.

To provide funding for nonprofit organizations and educational institutions to

build and expand land-use decision-making capacity at the county/regional level in rural and suburban communities, or

strengthen the capacity for statewide discussion regarding future land-use planning

Application Process
PAL will accept applications until 5 P.M. on January 12, 2001. To be eligible for funding, the application and proposed project must meet the requirements outlined in the attached document, "PAL Grant Requirements." Awards will be announced on February 2, 2001.

If you have questions about the application or grant process, please contact Bill Rustem, who is the PAL manager, or Julie Metty, assistant PAL manager.
