E-M:/ 2 Job Opportunities

Enviro-Mich message from "Tom & Anne Woiwode" <woiwode@voyager.net>

Over the past year I've been working with the Community Foundation for
Southeastern Michigan to develop a greenways initiative for the 7 counties
in and around Detroit. That initiative, known as the GreenWays Initiative,
has now taken shape and funding is available to begin its implementation.

If the GWI is to reach its full potential, it needs staff. This is to
announce 2 job opportunities with the GWI at the Community Foundation.

This is not to formally announce the creation of the GreenWays
Initiative--that will be done in the near future. However, to provide some
context for the 2 positions, here's a brief description of the GWI.

The GreenWays Initiative is designed to create a green infrastructure for
greater Detroit. It will do 4 things:
*invest in projects that will change the landscape of the region;
*link communities ecologically by investing in corridors that connect
*link communities and institutions by creating the forum to work together
and building institutional and agency capacity; and
*elevate the profile of environmental issues in the region through education
and outreach.

The Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan is, in fact, a
foundation. It makes grants to organizations and agencies within its
7-county service area to improve the quality of life in the region. The
board of the CF believes strongly that investing in the health and
well-being of the landscape will significantly enhance the quality of life
for the 5 million people within the CF's service area.

The GWI is an initiative of the CF. It's unique in its structure within the
foundation in that the scope of the initiative is so broad. Recent
financial commitments from philanthropic sources have put us in the position
where we can pursue the goals of the GWI in earnest. In order to do that, I
need help.

The 2 positions available immediately are (note: neither job titles nor job
descriptions have been finalized; however, job responsibilities are

Assistant Director--the "chief operating officer" of the GWI; responsible
for the day-to-day operations of the GWI, including tracking activities
funded by the GWI, such as training, technical assistance, community
outreach and grantmaking; establish and maintain project systems, both
administrative and financial, to track CF/GWI grant awards; assist in
fundraising and communications with funders; assist in the development of
annual work plans, contract support, coordination with consultants and
support of project committees; monitor the GWI budget; assist in
communications with organizations developing projects and submitting
requests; prepare written analysis and recommendations of applications;
manage documentation of project activities; and participate in general
program activities of the CF, as assigned. This is a senior level position.

Program Assistant--coordination and administrative support of the GWI;
support project consultants and external contractors, daily operations and
activities of GWI; help in arranging and coordinating off-site technical
assistance programs and other program logistics and meeting arrangements;
manage committee lists and assist with meeting planning; maintain project
records and track reporting requirements of all contracts. The position
requires daily interaction with the public and attention to detail.

If you are interested in either position and would like to discuss the
positions or the GreenWays Initiative, you can reach me by any of the means
below; or you can contact me at the Community Foundation for Southeastern
Michigan @ 313-961-6675 (e-mail is twoiwode@voyager.net).

Thanks for your help.
