NATURAL RESOURCES COMMISSION TO MEET FEBRUARY 8-9 IN LANSING

LANSING--The Natural Resources Commission will hold its
regular monthly meeting in Lansing on Thursday, February 8,
at the Lansing Center, 333 E. Michigan, and Friday, February
9, at the Mason Building, 530 W. Allegan.
On Thursday, the NRC Policy Committee on Land Management
will meet at 12:30 p.m. in the 6th floor east conference
room in the Mason Building to discuss oil and gas lease
procedures, and the NRC Policy Committee on Technology,
Information, Marketing and Education will meet at 1 p.m. in
the 6th floor west conference room to review the Brogan
marketing study.
The NRC Committee of the Whole convenes at 3 p.m. in Room
201 of the Lansing Center with a briefing on current
activities of the Forest Management Division by Acting Chief
Ed Hagan and a report by Wildlife Division Chief Rebecca
Humphries outlining the key wildlife issues the division
intends to bring before the NRC in 2001, including a monthly
timetable for discussion and action. The regular meeting of
the NRC will begin at 4:30 with public appearances.
On Friday, February 9, the meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. with
reports from DNR Director K.L. Cool and staff. Commissioners
will be briefed on the department's proposed fee structure
for Michigan State Parks and Recreation Areas, as well as
the proposed increase for the state park motor vehicle
permits, which are required for entry into a state park or
recreation area.
Under Commission Action items, commissioners will approve
new regulations that adopt Best Management Practices for fur
trapping equipment and techniques that address humaneness,
safety to users, selectivity and efficiency. These new
regulations were developed over the past two years by the
Wildlife Division's furbearer management workgroup, in
partnership with state trapper organizations.
A complete agenda for the February 8-9 meeting can be found
on the DNR Web site at www.michigandnr.com. Click on "NRC
