E-M:/ water rates

Enviro-Mich message from Karen Griggs <kgriggs@kettering.edu>
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear friends,
 According to the Detroit Free Press, Feb. 22, 2001, p. 1 G
the regional water utility, Detroit, supplies water to 126 communities
at very low rates (compared to the rest of the nation).
The city council voted last night to raise the rates for infrastructure
improvements, 7.6 % for Detroit residents, and a "combined average" of
6.9 percent for the suburbs.
Chlorine will be replaced by ozone treatment.
This is great news for the Great Lakes.
Sincerely,
Karen Griggs
