IPM PROGRAM MANAGER‹Safe Schools; Safe Parks

LocalMotion is a nonprofit organization founded in 1999.  LocalMotion is designed and dedicated to raising awareness about the links between environmental toxins and negative health consequences, including cancer.  The Safe Schools and Safe Parks program manager implements and manages integrated pest management strategies in schools and parks in eastern Wayne County.


SAFE SCHOOLS, SAFE PARKS (Integrated Pesticide Management)
IPM PROGRAM MANAGER

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee, implement and monitor plans bringing integrated pest management strategies to schools and parklands in eastern Wayne County.

Foster relationships with school officials, city officials, pesticide applicators, private companies and students

Work with Michigan Department of Agriculture to develop and hold workshops and training sessions for school and city personnel as well as for students

Coordinate plans with students; oversee compliance as necessary

Work with the Executive Director and technical advisors to develop plan for broadening programs beyond into other communities

Develop active volunteer base: train, utilize and supervise

Retain interns as necessary: train, utilize and supervise

Write grant reports for and with Executive Director

Work on special projects as needed by the Executive Director


Skills and Qualifications

Bacheloršs degree and some experience in environmental field desirable

Working knowledge of dangers of pesticides and an understanding of integrated pest management strategies

Michigan driveršs license

Knowledge of word-processing and Internet

Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills

Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders from students to representatives of State agencies

Must not mind driving: offices in Ann Arbor, programs to be implemented currently in Grosse Pointe.


Hours, Compensation and Application Process

Full-time position; salary commensurate with experience; health benefits available

OFFICE ASSISTANT

LocalMotion is a nonprofit organization founded in 1999. LocalMotion is designed and dedicated to raising awareness about the links between environmental toxins and negative health consequences, including cancer. The office assistant will perform routine office duties as well as assist with special programs and projects.


Duties and Responsibilities

Manage and oversee office ‹ take phone calls, write letters, foster relationships with interested parties, send requested information, maintain files, perform Internet research, work with printer; this position could turn into something larger


Candidates should have

Bacheloršs degree preferred; knowledge of environmental issues

Excellent phone manners

Writing and editing skills

Ability to discern what is and is not important

Solid word processing and internet (research) skills

Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills


Hours, Compensation and Application Process

Start at part-time with expectation of becoming full-time; between $8.50 and $10 an hour, depending on skills
