E-M:/ TAKE ACTION - "TULLOCH FIX" RULE IN DANGER

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enviro-Mich message from Michael Boyce <birder@voyager.net>
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michigan has lost millions of acres of wetlands and has seen nearly a
2/3 total reduction in wetlands since our european forefathers first
arrived. Yet pressures to destroy many of the valuable few remaining
wetlands in our great state persist today. It is imperative that
thinking people make every effort to prevent such a catastrophe.

Both the two national chapters of Audubon, Michigan Audubon Society and
Detroit Audubon Society, in conjunction with National Audubon Society
urge you to take action on the so called "Tulloch Fix" rule that would
work to help protect thousands of acres of wetlands and streams from
destruction.

"TULLOCH FIX" RULE IN DANGER

The Bush administration is delaying implementation of important
environmental rules and policies. There is concern that implementation
of the "Tulloch Fix" rule, which would protect streams and wetlands, may
be delayed. As many of you know, the "Tulloch Fix" rule provides
clarification of the role of the Army Corps of Engineers and the
Environmental Protection Agency in protecting thousands of acres
wetlands and streams from destruction.

We urge you to contact EPA Administrator Whitman by US Mail, phone, FAX,
or email (whitman.christine@epamail.epa.gov) and let her know that this
rule should not be delayed or withdrawn. A sample letter is below.

Thanks in advance for your action!

SAMPLE LETTER:

Dear EPA Administrator Whitman:

Please support the "Tulloch-fix" wetland and stream protection rule and
allow it to go into effect. Please do not permit this rule to be
withdrawn, delayed or weakened.

If this urgently needed rule is delayed or withdrawn, important wetland
and streams will continue to be destroyed through draining activities.
The vast majority of Americans want effective wetland protection. They
know wetlands are important for flood control, water purification,
groundwater recharge, fish and wildlife habitat, and basic quality of
life.

We look forward to your leadership on this crucial matter. Thank you
very much for your consideration.

Sincerely,

(your name and address)
